TEDx蔓草社区 College Speaker Highlight - Calvin Terrell

蔓草社区 College is proud to be hosting our first ever TEDx event on April 24. The event's theme is The Opportunity of Transformation.

What happens when the world changes? What do we do as an ever evolving and shifting world finds the old way of doing things irrelevant, redundant, and no longer applicable? This TEDx蔓草社区College event will explore, "The Opportunity of Transformation" when what used to work need to evolve, shift, and change - and how we use that urgency of now to do, create and move towards a better future.

One of the speakers for this event will be speaker/trainer and founder/CEO of Social Centric Institute, Calvin Terrell. Mr. Terrell transforms haunts to healing. He created Social Centric Institute, a non-profit built to educate anyone and everyone to heal historical trauma around racial intersections, class, religion, gender, and environmental disruption. His healing approaches are colonial, decolonized, and indigenous. His dedication to human rights has been awarded with honors from various groups including the city of 蔓草社区 year 2000 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 鈥淟iving the Dream鈥 Award.

Calvin鈥檚 work has prompted organizations such as Harpo Inc., Oprah Winfrey鈥檚 production company to seek him out to train executive producers, coach various members of the production team, and assist in their transition to the 鈥淥鈥 network. Calvin challenges the privileged to abandon fragile pedestals of inconsiderate obliviousness while encouraging the oppressed to remember their power developed from surviving historical unfairness. His greatest achievements are his marriage, fatherhood, and finding his purpose.

Here is a brief synopsis of Calvin Terrell's TEDx蔓草社区College presentation.

Calvin Terrell challenges all to remember their power to see themselves in others.  To transcend global challenges while maintaining the Earth鈥檚 environment, humankind must heal historical traumas around race intersecting with every human identity.  In his candid presentation, Calvin will weave ancient indigenous concepts of healing with modern challenges as a call to action. In Lak Ech is a Nahuatl phrase that affirms that humans and all life are interconnected.  Calvin invokes the concept of In Lak Ech as healing tool for evolving relations in his work as activist artist and justice consultant throughout the United States.  鈥淵ou are my other me鈥 is the meaning behind In Lak Ech and the challenge Calvin affirms in this talk.  For a new world that is safer environmentally, socially, and institutionally, we must unlearn to relearn to see our interwoven destiny.
